No man wants to go to a parenting course!

No man wants to go to a parenting course!

You don’t, I don’t. We don’t want to be told how to fix our family, we don’t like the idea of it being broken — that’s why I haven’t written a parenting book.

It’s also why everything I write is about leadership — because every dad leads and we all want to be better leaders.

We have many titles; father, son, brother, husband, partner — but the most important title of all is culture maker!

At work, and at home, the most powerful, potent and effective thing we can be is a culture maker.

Parenting strategies are good, but as Peter Drucker says “Culture eats strategy for lunch.” I reckon he should have said breakfast, because family and workplace culture is often challenged by breakfast time, and the leaders job is to reset it, every day.

Workplace culture is less a reflection of our mission/vision and more a reflection of its leaders — and how they lead.

Family culture is not inspirational wall art declaring love, joy and peace — It’s what happens when someone fails, or makes a mistake — it’s measured by the height of your standards and the size of your grace.

Culture is measured by the height of your standards and the size of your grace.

It’s measured in the moments that people disagree with you.

Culture is the environment you create for your partner and kids, and your workmates.

Father, dad, leader — Culture maker, what culture have you created today?
