Is this the number one thing undermining great leaders at home?
We’ve all seen men lose their family because of bad judgment or a lack of self control — I’ve seen more lose their family because of something more subtle.
Men find success through their hard work and determination. Along the way they take on the responsibility of making sure the right decisions are made.
On a good day this looks like delegating wisely, then coaching and empowering their staff. On a bad day it just looks like telling, directing and controlling.
Then after a hard day at work, they go home.
Home is all about the heart. At home, telling directing and controlling — is harsh.
It can work, when the kids are young. But as they age, they need to be coached and empowered too.
Men can tell, direct, control and generally make great stuff happen at work, all day long — but anything that even smells of telling, directing and controlling at home, is too harsh.
I’ve seen hugely effective leaders, intelligent people, simply be too harsh at home.
I believe harshness likely undermines more great leaders at home than affairs.
Whilst humans always pull away from harsh people, we always respond to compassionate leaders.
A man who wants to be a great leader will teach himself to lead well at home.
Great leaders don’t implement their parenting with harshness. They engage their children with compassion. Is your harshness undermining you at home?
