How to be strategically present

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have the energy to be highly present for long periods of time.

I’m a bit broken like that — being with others burns maximum mental calories.

Knowing this— but wanting to achieve big things — I’ve created routines to optimise my presence.

At work, I do an early morning walk around the factory, connecting with each of the Flare team as they start their day. It sets them up for success.

I could, in theory, go missing for the rest of the day and it probably wouldn’t matter — except for days with troubles — which is most days.

But everyone finds the troubles more manageable — if I’ve done my 7am walk.

Why?

Because how and when we're present matters.

As a dad, I can slouch around home all day — my presence having little positive effect on my children — and a worse affect on me.

Or, I can come home after a day at work, have a single device free hour with my family, and have a massive impact on the feel of my family.

Married dads — divorced dads, we've all got to be present, but by being strategic — we can make it really matter.
